Politicians address Church and State forum

A Democrat and a Republican. A current Maryland state senator and a former one. Two people, who know about Maryland politics from across the aisle, will speak at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church’s Fall Adult Forum: Church & State at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, in the church’s Parish Hall at 199 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, Md.

Maryland State Sen. Shaneka Henson, a Democrat, and former Maryland State Sen. Edward Reilly, a Republican, will discuss “Contemporary Perspectives on Work and Faith” at the forum.

Henson was elected to the Annapolis City Council in 2017. She served on the council until 2019 when she became a member of the Maryland House of Delegates. After six years in the House of Delegates, she began serving in the Maryland State Senate.

Reilly served on the Anne Arundel County Council from December 2002 to June 2009 when he was sworn into the Maryland Senate. He served as a Maryland state senator from then until January 2023.

This forum is the fourth of eight forums that focus on the historic and contemporary roles of the church in American political life. Members of St. Anne’s ministries will present case studies on Church and State at the next forum on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 11:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall.
