Apparently Verizon not only cheats their customers by advertising 1Gb lines and not delivering, they also don't know the meaning of redundancy. One neighborhood has been without television, internet, and in some cases phones because Sunday afternoon a fiber line was cut. The current estimate is Tuesday morning for a restoration.
Apparently they don't have a optical time-domain reflectometer or don't have a fusion splicing machine or don't have the manpower or expertise to fuse glass strands together. Maybe they don't have a backhoe and can't dig it up. I don't know. I know I have lost work time because of it.
