The Cardinal

A Symbol of Hope and Beauty

Cardinal
Cardinal (HUGH VANDERVOORT)

The cardinal is one of the most popular and beloved birds in North America. With its bright red plumage and cheerful song, it is a symbol of hope and beauty for many people. The Cardinal is a medium-sized songbird with a thick bill and a crested head. The male Cardinal is bright red all over, with a black mask around his eyes and beak. The female cardinal is duller, with a reddish-brown back and wings, and a gray-brown chest. Both males and females have a prominent crest on top of their heads. Look for this cheerful bird anywhere there's greenery.
