Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Its mission is to create opportunities that allow individuals to enjoy life, explore nature, and restore their health and well-being. The Gampopa Center is a spiritual community, where we learn and practice the teachings (philosophy, meditation, and science of mind) of the Buddha. Our Dharma center holds a variety of spiritual practices, ranging from meditation to philosophical study and sadhana practices. Rooted in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Gampopa Center draws on the teachings and practices of countless realized figures across many different lineages and schools of thought. When it comes to Dharma studies and activities, we consider ourselves as nonsectarian followers of the Buddha, whereby we invite Dharma teachers from all major traditions of Buddhism, to teach Dharma in ways that preserve those different traditions. However, when we are doing more serious and specific Dharma practices, we follow the Kadam masters and the Kagyu lineage of Vajrayana. The Gampopa Center is located at 1831 Forest Drive, Suite C, in Annapolis, Maryland. Founded by Lama Phurbu Tashi Rinpoche, the center serves as a welcoming space for individuals to explore the philosophy and science of mind through the authentic teachings of the Buddha. By providing a physical sanctuary in the heart of Annapolis, the center fosters a supportive environment for local practitioners and visitors alike. The City of Annapolis is asking residents who are interested in a new, revitalized  City Dock to make their voices known. For two more days, City of Annapolis residents can send in applications to be part of The City Dock Advisory Committee (CDAC). This committee is one step in a yearlong effort to redevelop one of the city's most well-known areas. Annapolitans who want to be a part of the process have until Friday, Oct. 8 to apply. The Department of Planning and Zoning will be heading the efforts. Those who are interested can send either a letter or email expressing their interest to the Planning and Zoning Department. E-mails can be sent to citydock@annapolis.gov and letters can be mailed to The Department of Planning and Zoning at 145 Gorman St., 3rd floor, Annapolis, MD, 21401.
