Class Credits Needed To Graduate Reduced For AACPS Seniors
The graduation requirement of 26 credits has been altered to 22.5, which was achieved by cutting the number of electives needed by seniors.
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Seniors graduating from Anne Arundel County Public Schools will not need the usual number of credits due to the new coronavirus pandemic and subsequent school closure. The graduation requirement of 26 credits has been altered to 22.5, which was achieved by cutting the number of electives needed to graduate and does not alter the required amount of core classes for graduation.
AACPS Superintendent George Arlotto originally proposed pass or fail grading, but school board members didn't seem to favor that idea. Arlotto noted that rewriting the code for the district's current grading package might take months.
On Tuesday, the state education board also waived state graduation tests, meaning high school seniors will not have to pass the tests in order to receive a diploma.
