Clerk Shot Dead at Hanover Exxon Station

A customer found the Glen Burnie man fatally shot early Thursday at the gas station on Ridge Road in Hanover.

The clerk of an Exxon gas station in Hanover was shot dead early Thursday by a robber who grabbed cash and fled on foot, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

A customer of the Exxon station at 7898 Ridge Road called 911 about 1:35 a.m. Thursday to report finding the clerk injured and unconscious.

Police and fire/EMS personnel who responded to the call determined the clerk was dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Surveillance video at the business shows a male suspect entering the Exxon station and confronting the clerk shortly after 1 a.m. The suspect shot the clerk, took an undetermined amount of cash from
behind the counter and fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as an African American male, unknown age, average build, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, tan or light colored shorts, armed with a handgun.

The victim has been identified as Rajinder Kumar, 49, of Glen Burnie. Next of kin has been notified.

Police say the business will be closed through at least the morning hours, but the roads around the business are open.
