Clif Bars Recalled Over Listeria Concerns

Only select Clif Bars products are part of the voluntary recall. All contain sunflower seeds.

A voluntary recall has been issued for three different varieties of Clif Bars, after the company who makes the bars discovered Listeria concerns in an ingredient provider.

SunOpta, which provides sunflower seeds for the bars, may be contaminated with Listeria, according to an FDA release.

These are the recalled flavors:

  • CLIF BAR Nuts & Seeds energy bar all pack configurations with “best by” date ranges starting 08JUN16 through 21JAN17
  • CLIF BAR Sierra Trail Mix energy bar all pack configurations with “best by” date ranges starting 05JUN16 through 24MAR17
  • CLIF Mojo Mountain Mix® trail mix bar all pack configurations with “best by” date ranges starting 16JUN16 through 02FEB17

Listeriosis, an infection caused by Listeria, can pose major risks for certain populations, especially pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Recent recalls for listeria have included bagged lettuce, along with frozen vegetables and fruit.

No reports of anyone getting sick from them have been reported. Anyone who purchased these bars are encouraged to throw them away. You can read more about the recall here.
