Cooling Center Open as Annapolis Swelters Under Heat Advisory

With the temperatures expected to reach the upper 90s on Sunday, a cooling center is open until 6 p.m. at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center, 273 Hilltop Lane in Annapolis.

The Annapolis area weekend weather forecast calls for “feels like” temperatures of 105 by late afternoon. The city is under a heat advisory with highs reaching into the upper 90s.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation where heat illnesses are possible.

If you have neighbors or know of someone who lives without air conditioning, city officials urge you to check on them or offer them a cooler place to stay. A cool indoor location is the best defense against heat-related illness.

Never leave small children or pets unattended in vehicles. Temperatures inside the vehicle can rapidly climb to 130 degrees.

Residents using the facility as a cooling center will not have access to recreation activities.
