PASADENA, MD — A police officer dodged smoke and flames to rescue a dog from a burning Pasadena home, officials said.

The fire was reported about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 7700 block of Queens Park Road. Emergency dispatchers told responders that while the homeowner safely got out of the residence, she couldn’t retrieve her dog before escaping the flames.

Anne Arundel County Police Cpl. Bill Selander arrived at the scene ahead of Anne Arundel County Fire equipment, so he jumped into action, authorities said.

Selander assessed the fire conditions, then went inside the house to search for the missing pooch.

According to police officials, Selander used his flashlight to navigate through the smoke and found the small, white dog in a bedroom. He wrapped the dog in a blanket and reunited the pet with its owner.

Neither the officer nor the pup had a whisker singed.

Authorities haven’t identified the homeowner or pet. But maybe it’s name should be Lucky?
