David Mitchell Heard, 72, of Annapolis

David Mitchell Heard, 72, a 38-year resident of Annapolis and previously of New Carrollton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at his home.

Born on Sept. 12, 1943, in Lowell, MA, David graduated from Northwestern High School in 1961 and from the University of Maryland with a B.S. degree in business. He worked as a supervisor with Verizon for 36 years until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Crabtown Squares Dance Club for 22 years, serving as president for the past 6 years and volunteered with the Maryland State Department of Natural Resources

David enjoyed ballroom and square dancing, golfing, politics and football- both real and fantasy.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Heard, whom he married on December 19, 1965; his daughters, Michelle Pepersack of Williamsburg, VA and Jeanette Machen of Mt. Airy, MD; his parents, Rebecca Alice Wood and Joe Mitchell Heard, Jr. of Waynesboro, VA; his grandson, Nicholas Grey Machen and numerous nephews and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his sister, Sallie Hodgkinson.

Friends are invited to celebrate David’s life on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater, where his funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
