Doris Stagaard Gupton, 93, of Annapolis, died at home on October 14, 2015. Born on February 15, 1922 in Middlesex Borough, NJ, Doris served in the Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service (WAVES US Navy) from 1942 to 1946 and achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

She was a long time member of the Forest Garden Club in Prince George’s County. She was employed in the business office of the C & P Telephone Company in Washington, D.C.

She enjoyed traveling abroad, visiting her home in Southern Shores, NC, golf, reading, gardening and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewing L. Gupton, Jr in 2004 and two siblings, Stanley Stagaard and June Sutton.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Randy Childs (Walter) of Cape Charles, VA and Meredith Vandendriessche (Alan) of Annapolis, MD; six grandchildren Sara Craven (Mike), Jeffrey Childs (Melissa), Emily Childs, Kristen Umana (Jose), Elizabeth Vandendriessche (Ryan Faber) and John Vandendriessche; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. John Neumann Church on Bestgate Road in Annapolis on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 10:30 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway Pasadena, MD 21122.
