An Edgewater man has died from injuries suffered when he was hit by a minivan as he crossed a Pasadena street on his way to a bar, authorities say.

John Francis Thomas, 47, of Edgewater was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident about 11:25 p.m. April 19, according to the Anne Arundel Police Department.

He was struck by a 1997 Dodge Caravan driven by Rodger Louis Smith, 83, Pasadena. Smith’s van was eastbound on Mountain Road near Mansion House Crossing when it struck Thomas.

Just before the collision, police say Thomas was dropped off on the north side of Mountain Road in front of the 7-Eleven store. Thomas was attempting to cross the road to The Office Bar and Grill when he walked in front of Smith’s vehicle.

Police say Thomas wasn’t walking in a crosswalk and was wearing all black clothing. At the time of the accident it was raining steadily, reducing visibility.

After the collision, Smith pulled into the 7-Eleven parking lot and notified police.

Investigators say there is no evidence to suggest Smith was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol or speeding when this collision occurred. No charges have been filed.
