The fire broke out shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Crownsville. A mom discovered the fire in the basement and tried extinguishing it.
CROWNSVILLE, MD — A family of four and their dog have been displaced after a fire caused $15,000 damage to their Crownsville home Tuesday night. The fire broke out at approximately 5:23 p.m. at the two-story, single family home located at 1904 Pump Handle Court. Three fire departments responded to the call that came from within the home.
The woman living in the home told firefighters she heard a "fizzling" sound in the basement and found flames around a light fixture in the ceiling. She and the children fled before she called 911 and returned to the home alone with a fire extinguisher to try and put out the fire.
More than 30 firefighters had the blaze under control in an estimated 10 minutes after arriving on the scene. According to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, the fire officially broke out in the basement between the drop ceiling and the bottom of the first floor.
