Fatal West Street Crash Kills Elderly Driver

An elderly Annapolis driver died one day after his car crashed into a tractor-trailer outside a car dealership, police say.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — An elderly Annapolis driver who crashed Thursday morning into a tractor-trailer rig backing into a local car dealership has died from his injuries, according to Annapolis Police. Ralph Reeder, 89, died Friday at Baltimore Shock Trauma.

Authorities say Reeder was driving his 2011 Hyundai Elantra eastbound near 1797 West St. while a Freightliner tractor trailer was facing eastbound in the westbound lane of West St. Traffic in both directions on West Street was stopped while the tractor trailer was backing into Adams Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.

Reeder's station wagon moved into the westbound lanes, striking the cab of the tractor trailer driven by Derwin Courtney, 60, of Henrico, Virginia. Courtney suffered minor injuries and was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center.
