Flash Flood Warning in Effect: National Weather Service

Annapolis, Edgewater and part of Anne Arundel County can expect flash flooding 'shortly,' according to National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for central Anne Arundel County, and Annapolis officials warned of heavy rains filling streets near City Dock.

A flash flood warning means flooding is imminent or occurring and people should move to higher ground immediately.

The warning is in effect until 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10.

Weather officials reported that up to 3 inches of rain had fallen by 3:06 p.m. and an additional inch was possible.

Earlier, the Annapolis Office of Emergency Management says “King George Street is shut down at Wagner Street and Taylor Avenue is shut down at Rowe Boulevard. Melvin Avenue and Ridgely Avenue also flooded.”

Annapolis Police said Taylor and King George streets reopened about 3:45, but others, including Hudson Street, were blocked by flooding as storm drains filled.

Hudson Street reopened about 5 p.m., police said.

  • Parole
  • Highland Beach
  • Cape Arthur
  • Eastport
  • Sherwood Forest
  • Bay Ridge
  • Edgewater Beach
  • Cape St. Claire
  • Navy-Marine Corps Stadium
  • Edgewater
  • Belvedere Heights
  • Hillsmere Shores

People are reminded not to cross swift waters or water where depth is not able to be determined.
