Fleet Week Returning To MD + Bark In The Park Will Teach Pet Safety
Fleet Week will bring Navy vessels and tall ships to Maryland after a two-year hiatus. Plus, a bark-in-the-park event will teach pet safety.

MARYLAND — After a two-year hiatus, Fleet Week is returning to Maryland with all its Navy vessels and tall ships. Animal lovers will enjoy two opportunities to learn about pet safety, and nature fans can study native mushrooms.
Patch recently partnered with several local organizations to bring you their latest news. This guest contribution comes from National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways and Chesapeake Conservancy. Here's what Jody Hedeman Couser submitted to help you explore the Chesapeake Bay:

"Fleet Week Baltimore, Past and Present
A great way to preview this exciting event is to learn about past Fleet Weeks, especially from the bird’s eye view of an SUP. Writer/paddler Saki cruised around the Inner Harbor checking out U.S. and foreign Navy vessels from the past and watching flight acrobatics from his paddleboard during the 2016 and 2018 Baltimore Fleet Weeks. Most of the vessels and flyover aircraft will be different this year, but Fleet Week & Flyover Baltimore 2022 is guaranteed to be a thrilling spectacle. Read Fleet Week Baltimore, Past and Present. A list of all the vessels expected to be at the 2022 Fleet Week is included at the end of the blog."
"Pets and the Dangers of Toxic Algal Blooms
Summer algal blooms with varying levels of toxicity are not new to the Chesapeake Bay watershed, but they are increasing. Caused by excess nutrients and increasing water temperatures from climate change, toxic algal blooms are particularly dangerous for pets and livestock. According to ShoreRivers, “These toxins can be fatal to pets within just 12 hours of exposure, so it's critically important for pet owners and veterinarians to be aware of the risks posed by algal blooms.” ShoreRivers recently conducted a workshop for pet owners discussing what symptoms to look for in pets and livestock, and what can be done to reduce the occurrence of these blooms. The workshop was recorded and is available for viewing. Watch Pets & Harmful Algal Blooms Virtual Workshop."
