Fraudulent Hospital Bill Charges Woman $1,800: Police

Police said an Annapolis woman got a $1,800 bill for a Lanham hospital. There was just one problem. She had never been there.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Police said an Annapolis woman got a fraudulent bill for Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham. Officers noted that the bill tried to charge her $1,821.04 for treatment she supposedly received on March 26.

The victim told police she had never been to the medical center, an incident report informed. Officers explained that the victim also had supporting evidence to show she was in Annapolis the day of this fictitious treatment. Investigators advised that they "were unable to verify the validity of the bill with the hospital."

The Annapolis Police Department indicated that it handled the incident last Friday in the 200 block of Center Street.
