ANNAPOLIS, MD — A security guard was assaulted and carjacked Wednesday at the Westfield Annapolis mall, county police announced. Authorities said this prompted a police chase that ended with an arrest in Glen Burnie.
Officers identified the arrestee as 35-year-old Brandy Whitmore of Annapolis.
Authorities responded to 2002 Annapolis Mall around 4:30 a.m. Police said they learned that the security guard was assaulted and pulled from the driver's seat of their marked patrol vehicle.

The suspect then stole the vehicle, officers said.
Authorities spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it in Annapolis near Forest Drive and Spa Road. A press release said the suspect refused to stop, and a police chase ensued.

Officers said they eventually used stop sticks to disable the vehicle. The vehicle then stopped in the 400 block of 7th Avenue in Glen Burnie.
The suspect exited the vehicle and tried to run away, authorities said.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department said it caught and arrested the suspect after a short foot chase.
Officers expect the security guard to survive. Authorities said they recovered the vehicle.
