H. Stafford 'Skip' Bullen Jr., 80, of Annapolis

H. Stafford “Skip” Bullen Jr., 80, a resident of Annapolis for 54 years, passed away at his home on Jan. 4, 2016 with his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Lee Bullen by his side.

Born on July 7, 1935 in Baltimore to the late H. Stafford and Margaret Bullen, Skip attended Loyola Blakefield High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Mount Saint Mary’s College and a JD degree in law from the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Skip spent the majority of his career with the State of Maryland as a lobbyist with the Maryland Department of Transportation, Assistant Secretary of State and a Hearing Officer for the Department of Natural Resources. He also served on the Governor’s Executive Advisory Council.

Skip was committed to building a strong community and served as president and board member of the Community Chest of Anne Arundel County, as Chairman, Vice Chairman, and board member of the Anne Arundel Community College, as President and board member of the Anne Arundel Community College Foundation and as Chairman and board member of the United Way of Central Maryland.

He was a strong proponent of youth sports and helped establish Hero’s Lacrosse in Anne Arundel County, where he served as president of the organization’s board. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Athletic Association, served on the board of the Annapolis Touchdown Club, and was one of the founders of the Annapolis High School Boosters.

He enjoyed antiquing, auctions, gardening, swimming, and a good game of horseshoes.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, Peggy Lee, he is survived by four sons, Chip Bullen and wife, Jeannie of Annapolis, Chris Bullen and Catherine Waterman of Cape St. Claire, Craig Bullen and wife, Aimee of Gibson Island and Charles Bullen and wife, Katie of Annapolis; his brother, Daniel R. Bullen of Delaware and 11 grandchildren.

Friends are invited to a memorial service to remember and celebrate Skip’s life at St. Margaret’s Church, 1601 Pleasant Plains Road in Annapolis, on Friday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m., followed by a reception in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hero’s Lacrosse General Scholarship Fund or the Anne Arundel Community College Foundation, 101 College Parkway, Arnold, MD 21012.
