Health Department Orders Emergency Closing of Santee Basin

The closing will stay in effect until officials determine the water quality condition to be acceptable.

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health issued an emergency closing of the Santee Basin in Annapolis.

According to a notice on the health department’s website, the basin, which is located on U.S. Naval Academy property, was closed due to sewage leaks. It was ordered Friday, according to a pre-recorded message on the department's Recreational Water Quality phone line.

“The leaks have stopped and sewer line repairs are planned," officials stated in the notice.

Health department officials warn anyone who has come into contact with the water to wash with soap and warm water immediately. The notice also advices that clothing should be washed as well.
