How Would Anne Arundel Residents Spend $1.5 Billion Powerball Jackpot?

The drawing for the largest Powerball ever happens today. Find out how our readers said they would spend their winnings.

While the odds of winning the largest Powerball jackpot ever are beyond slim to none, Patch still encourages our readers to dream.

Several $1 million prizes have been claimed so far, but the $1.5 billion grand prize continues to grow.

According to the official Powerball website, players must match all five white balls (in no order) and the red Powerball in order to claim it all. The winning numbers will be pulled Wednesday, January 13 at 10:59 p.m. If you’re thinking of playing, tickets sales cut off 59 minutes before the drawing.

We asked our Facebook readers in Annapolis, Crofton, Glen Burnie, Edgewater, Broadneck, Odenton, and Severna Park how they would give back to Anne Arundel County if they struck gold. Here’s what your neighbors said:

  • “I’d help fund the construction of Crofton High School and buy land for a new Cardinal Field sports complex.”
  • “Open a 24/7 365yr. Homeless shelter”
  • “Renovate schools”
  • “ I would open a multiplex ice and roller skating rink at the site of the old Giant.”
  • “My son went to St. Mary’s and that little school could use all sorts of generosity!”
  • “I don’t care who wins as long as the save the bay and the animals!”
  • “Make sure all the animal shelters had plenty of operating funds and fix all the parks and their wish lists!”
  • Church, animal shelters, etc...”
  • “The title 1 schools would get a HUGE boost. New activity centers in poor neighborhoods with staffed counselors, tutors, coaches, field trips, music lessons, college prep, etc, etc. Money to Quiet Waters, because that playground needs an update...and a splash pad for kids to play in. The Lighthouse shelter and addiction treatment programs would get lots of $$$. There would be so many ways I could give back to my city.”
