Annapolis Senior Activity Center members pride themselves on being active, but they may have outdone themselves on July 31 when nearly 100 seniors attended the Hot Dog Hoedown.
At the same time some seniors were picking up registration sheets for Anne Arundel Community College classes to be held at the center in October. They were attending their usual Wednesday classes, working out in the physical fitness room, and introducing new members to the center.
The entertainers, J & J Duo, were determined to get everyone’s blood moving with their performance of country music and classic rock ‘n’ roll. The duo urged the seniors to line dance, twist and polka. Exhausted from their other activities and stuffed with hot dogs, most seniors were content to clap and sway in time to the music.

Of course, some did dance and some even stayed after the hoedown to play cards, play Bingo, or just to socialize.
But most were happy just to listen to such favorites as “I Can’t Help It (If I’m Still in Love With You);” “I Love You Because;” “Blue Suede Shoes;” “Hey, Good Lookin’;” “(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear;” “Heartaches by the Number;” “The Twist;” “Blueberry Hill;” and “Beer Barrel Polka.”

The big hit was the hot dogs. Almost all the seniors asked, “Where did you get them? What kind are they?” The answer was, “Bar S Jumbo, quarter pound hot dogs from Shoppers.”
Another big hit was the decorations which featured a chuck wagon, barn and corral, and a saloon entrance with a steer skull, wagon wheel, cowboy hat and bandanna as accessories and arrows pointing to the chuck wagon and watering hole.
Tables were decorated with black and white balloons and red balloons which were somehow reminiscent of cows. These were given to the seniors after the hoedown as party favors.
So relaxing and so good was the hoedown that few seniors wanted to leave, but bit by bit they gathered up their balloons to depart
