Intoxicated Burglar Tells Police He Thought He Was Home

An Annapolis man was arrested for attempted burglary after he was found passed out at the front door of a house.

An Annapolis man found passed out at the site of a house he was reportedly trying to burglarize told police he thought he was home.

Anne Arundel County Police found a burglary suspect allegedly passed out at the front door of a residence in the 1200 block of Hilltop Drive in Annapolis. Officers were quickly able to determine the suspect was extremely intoxicated, according to a police report.

The homeowner told officer she was awakened about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday by noises at her home’s front door. She investigated and saw the suspect – later identified as Michael Liam Garvey, 27, of 1106 Riverboat Court in Annapolis – trying to enter the front door of her home.

Garvey was taken into custody and told police he thought he was at a residence on a neighboring street. Because of his intoxicated state, he was unaware that he was at the incorrect residence, officers said.

Police charged Garvey with attempted burglary, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
