Fashion retailer J.McLaughlin has opened on Main Street in Annapolis.
ANNAPOLIS, MD — A clothing company that started on New York's Upper East Side and now has 100 stores nationwide has opened its doors in downtown Annapolis. Fashion retailer J.McLaughlin opened on Main Street in time for the Naval Academy's Commissioning Week festivities.
“We are excited to continue our expansion with our second store in Maryland. We know that Annapolis will make a great new home for J.McLaughlin and we are thrilled to add this destination to our roster and to introduce the community to the unique shopping experience we offer,” said CEO Mary Ellen Coyne in a news release to Patch.
The design of the Annapolis store features all of the elements of the J.McLaughlin aesthetic.

A signature color palette, custom hand painted wallpapers and comfy seating areas are just a few of the elements. Each store is uniquely designed with a nod toward the local culture and architecture, says Coyne in the news release. The Annapolis location pays tribute the Chesapeake Bay sailing community with nautical décor elements.
“The store will house a curated selection of our collection for Annapolis. We are thrilled to include an assortment of summer sundresses, wide brimmed straw hats and colorful accessories, all to compliment the kick off of the summer season. The assortment should blend nicely with the tastes of the local community,” says creative director and co-founder Kevin McLaughlin, in a release.

The 804 square foot store is located at 181 Main Street and will feature a full assortment of women’s and men’s clothing and accessories.
Women's leggings run from $98 and up, pants sell for $158 and a spaghetti strap silk dress is listed for $238 on the boutique's website. A men's polo shirt can cost $88, while shorts start at $115 and casual pants are shown for $155.
Rosso Commercial said on its website that the firm received over 20 inquires and offers from seven candidates for the space before J.McLaughlin was named the new long-term tenant. RossoCRE negotiated the new lease terms.
With over 110 shops in Palm Beach, Kiawah Island, Nantucket, Middleburg, and Georgetown, Main Street is a perfect fit for the brand, says the leasing agent. "J.McLaughlin’s look can be described as innovatively nostalgic. World-class quality silks, sporty cottons and cashmeres alongside tongue-in-chic martini-glass embroidered Bermudas, feather minis and statement-making hybrid prints like “Trellis Flora” and “Zebra Chain Link,” says the real estate firm.
The retailer launched in 1977 in Manhattan, "a well-bred kind of place with a welcoming, faded-paint, cozy chair feel. Today, with over 100 stores and a thriving e-commerce business, J.McLaughlin celebrates their continued success as uber-classic American clothiers and one of the country’s last great first-name-basis retailers," the company says on its website.
The shop is located next to lou lou boutiques, with nearby businesses including Red Red Wine Bar, Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls, Hatley, The Lucky Knot, Annapolis Running Shop, Seasons Annapolis, Osteria 177 and Vida Taco Bar, the realty company says.
