I would like to applaud Mayor Pantelides for his desire to preserve Crystal Spring Farm as open space.
Because of the vision of then County Executive Lightizer we now have Quiet Waters Park which we all love.
It is unfortunate that Janet Richardson-Pearson has not stayed with her original vision of her property. In 1998 her letter states "My family and I always dreamed of owning this land to preserve the natural beauty of the Bay environment we love so much. Thankfully I was able to purchase the land before a 662 unit town home development was built." She concludes "Let's all do what we can to keep this lovely parcel of open space as intact as possible."In 2005 the concept plan submitted with the annexation shows 3-5 acre farmettes with horses as well as some commercial and retail on the northern end of the property, as well as some apartments on top of the retail and some “Active adult living - architecture reflects farm and equestrian theme”. There also was a new wellness house suggested. The 2009 Comprehensive Plan calls for a maximum number of 140 residential units and 167,000 sq. ft of commercial space for the entire Forest Drive Opportunity area. The current concept being proposed includes over 500 residential units some of them in a 6-story building and 200,000 sq. ft. of commercial space. It in many times larger than what was proposed in 1998, 2005 or 2009. I conclude with Janet Richardson-Pearson's own words "Let's all do what we can to keep this lovely parcel of open space as intact as possible."
