K-9 Takes Down Burglar Inside Closed Crownsville Wawa: Police

Anthony Michael Roney, 33, of Crownsville broke into in the Wawa while it was closed and was attempting to cut copper, police say.

CROWNSVILLE, MD — A 33-year-old Crownsville man was arrested after a K-9 apprehended him inside the Wawa at 1029 Generals Highway when it was closed. The incident happened Thursday at approximately 4:50 a.m. Anthony Michael Roney triggered the intruder alarm when he entered the business. Officers who arrived on the scene found him inside and ordered him to leave, but he refused. That's when the police dog took over.

The suspect sustained a minor injury during the incident with the K-9 and he was treated at the scene by Anne Arundel County Fire Department personnel. Roney also had burglary tools with him and, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, was attempting to cut copper from inside the building.

Roney was charged with second degree general burglary, fourth degree store burglary, fourth degree theft/burglary, fourth degree tools/burglary and malicious destruction of property valued at less than $1,000.
