Leon Allen Long, 79, of Annapolis and Ft. Myers, FL, died January 27, 2016 in Ft. Myers, Florida. Leon is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet Marie, and children Carl Spahn (Debbie) , Cindy Blum, Daniel Long (Mary Beth), Donald Long (Diane), and Douglas Long, 15 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Born in Roanoke, VA on June 15, 1936 to Lynnwood and Ruby Long, Leon grew up in Washington, DC and attended Chamberlain High School, where he played multiple sports including football. Leon was later employed as a lithographer at Hennage Creative Printers, Saul’s Litho (40 years), and Graphic Systems.

A long-term member of the Moose Club, Leon also gave countless hours coaching football and Little League baseball that impacted many young boys in the College Park Boys Club. Leon was an active member at Davidsonville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing, watching sporting events, and supporting his beloved Redskins. Hosting countless parties and spending time with friends and family brought him great joy.

Friends may call on Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 1 to 3pm and from 6 to 8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. A funeral service will be held on Monday morning, February 1, at 10am at Davidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 W. Central Ave.

Interment will follow at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to Childrens National Medical Center.
