Man Selling Heroin, Weed on Street Corner Flees from Annapolis Police

A man arrested for selling heroin on an Annapolis street corner faces 11 criminal charges, police say.

Annapolis, MD — A man reportedly selling heroin and marijuana on a street corner in the Newtowne 20 community faces multiple criminal charges, according to police.

About 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Annapolis Police reportedly saw Damar Simms, 20, of Annapolis, at Brooke Court and Betsy Court selling drugs and carrying a handgun.

When officers approached Simms he fled on foot into the woods. During the foot chase, police say Simms threw a jacket, drugs, and a handgun. Officers retrieved the handgun, which had been reported stolen from an Anne Arundel County resident.

Twenty  small bags of suspected marijuana weighing about 17 grams, and, a bag containing 14 grams of suspected heroin were found in Simms' coat, authorities say.

Simms was charged with 11 criminal counts tied to possession of illegal drugs and possession of the handgun.

He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center on $25,000 bond.
