Victim Identified In Annapolis Shooting A Day Before Gun Protest

Annapolis Police have released the name of a man who was shot to death Friday night, one day before a rally against gun violence.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — One day before a rally against gun violence in Annapolis, a man was shot and killed Friday night on Forest Drive near Newtowne Drive, Annapolis Police said. On Saturday authorities said the victim is Edward Montre Seay, 32, of Chester.

Gunshots were reported to police at 9:19 p.m.; officers found a single vehicle collision at Forest Drive and South Cherry Grove Avenue. Seay was inside the vehicle, struck by gunfire and died from his injuries.

Nearly 750 grassroots events are planned nationwide from Friday through Sunday to call for an end to gun violence. The so-called "Wear Orange 2019" campaign events are part of the fifth annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day on June 7. Here are the details of the organized event in Annapolis:

Inclement weather location is Stanton Community Center, same date and time. Parking available at Whitmore Garage and Annapolis City bus stop located on the corner of Calvert and Clay Street.

More than 100 Americans are killed with guns every day, according to the organization, and guns are the second-leading cause of death for American children. The events, dedicated to honoring victims of gun violence, are meant to elevate the "voice of every American who demands an end to gun violence" throughout the weekend.

As of 11 p.m. Friday police said Forest Drive was still closed near South Cherry Grove Avenue and was expected to remain closed for some time.
