Man Who Stabbed Mom with Steak Knife Over Painkillers Sentenced
A man who stabbed his Brooklyn mother when she wouldn't give him prescription painkillers has been sent to prison, prosecutors say.

BROOKLYN, MD — A man who crept into his mother’s bedroom with a steak knife to steal her prescription pain medication, then stabbed her in a confrontation, has been sentenced to prison. Paul Jeffrey Tond, 32, of Brooklyn was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Michele D. Jaklitsch to 20 years with 10 years of active jail time for first-degree assault after stabbing his mother in the chest while she slept.
Prosecutors say Tond pleaded guilty on Sept. 15, 2016.
Anne Arundel County Police were called to the 61-year-old woman’s house in the 100 block of Edgevale Road in Brooklyn Park on April 16, 2015.

Investigators say Tond went into his mother’s room in an attempt to take her Percocet pills, which she slept with under her clothes so he couldn't take them. During an altercation, the victim was punched in the face several times and then stabbed with a steak knife on the left side of her stomach.
"This man was convicted for multiple prior violations of protective orders and two prior assaults," said Anne Arundel County State's Attorney Wes Adams in a statement. "I am grateful that Judge Jaklitsch recognized the threat he poses and held him accountable for viciously attacking his own mother."

When Ms. Tond told her son they needed to call 911 for help, he would not allow her to use the phone or leave the residence. After she screamed and begged her son to allow her to leave, Paul Tond moved away from the door and she fled to a neighbor's home.
Officers surrounded Tond’s house and he was taken into custody without incident.
Paul Tond was initially charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, possession of a deadly weapon, robbery, false imprisonment, and theft under $100.
