Maritime Museum Cancels Coral Reefer Concert, Citing Coronavirus

The Annapolis Maritime Museum canceled its Boatyard Beach Bash. Members of Jimmy Buffet's Coral Reefer Band were scheduled to perform.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Fans will not be "Wasted away again in Margaritaville" this year. That's because the Annapolis Maritime Museum canceled the 2020 Boatyard Beach Bash, where member's of Jimmy Buffet's band were scheduled to perform.

The Coral Reefer Band plays at the bash every other year, but coronavirus robbed Parrot Heads of this year's concert. The annual shows have helped the museum raise more than $1 million over the last 15 years.

"We are so disappointed to cancel the event, but health and safety is paramount," museum board member Dick Franyo said in a Thursday press release. "We will be back with the Boatyard Beach Bash bigger than ever next year."

Franyo also owns Annapolis' Boatyard Bar & Grill, which partners with the museum to host the event each year.

The museum is currently closed for renovation. Franyo says workers are taking the time to train on the museum's historic skipjack sailboat for future programming.
