Maryland Weather Alert: Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For 3 Counties

BREAKING: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for three counties calling for 60 mph wind gusts.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The National Weather Service has extended a severe thunderstorm warning for Anne Arundel County and Prince George's County until 8:15 p.m. Friday. At 7:21 p.m. severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Severna Park to near Goddard, moving east at 20 mph. The initial severe thunderstorm warning impacted Anne Arundel, Howard, and Prince George's counties.

There are 60 mph wind gusts possible during the warning period, according to the weather service. Damaging winds may cause trees and large branches to fall, damaging homes and vehicles. Roads may be blocked, and power outages are possible.

Areas included in the severe thunderstorm warning are: Bowie, Annapolis, Crofton, Mayo, Naval Academy, Severn River, Sillery Bay, Severna Park, Odenton, Pasadena, Arnold, Lake Shore, Parole, Woodmore, Millersville, Londontowne, Glenn Dale, Edgewater, Cape St. Claire and Riva.

Get indoors to protect yourself from wind and lightning, say weather experts. Trees around you may be downed from damaging winds, so if you are near large trees, move to an interior room on the lowest floor. Don't drive underneath trees or in wooded areas until the threat has passed.
