This Is Maryland's Best Grocery Store, Website Says

Do you agree with this analysis about Maryland's very best grocery store?

ANNAPOLIS, MD — While Wegmans and Harris Teeter are two of the grocery store chains with a devoted customer base in Maryland — and Walmart, which is the country's biggest seller of groceries, sells a lot of food staples — a website says none of those chains are the favorite among the state's consumers. A newly-released ranking says another store has more to offer. MOM’s Organic Market has been identified as the best grocery store in Maryland, The Daily Meals says.

The popular food news website, which published its list last week, said of MOM’s Organic Market: "Founded in 1987, MOM's has grown to become the Mid-Atlantic region's premier chain of family owned and operated organic grocery stores. MOM's emphasizes that the chain’s purpose is to protect and restore the environment."

To come up with its list, The Daily Mail said it "scoured the Internet" for as much information as it could find, cross-referencing other best-of lists that have previously been written as well as reviews on Google, Yelp, Foursquare and Facebook.

"We also conducted informal polls of friends, family, and acquaintances in far-off states in search of the answer, weighing concerns and praise about price, quality of products, and customer service, as well as store cleanliness," according to the site.

A survey of customer loyalty released in May 2017 by Market Force said that America's favorite grocery store was a tie between Maryland favorite Wegmans and Florida-based Publix. Trader Joe's was a very close second and Texas chain H-E-B ranks third. This was the second consecutive year that Wegmans has held the top spot in the annual study, while Publix, which ranked second for the past four years, moved up into a first-place tie with Wegmans, with each scoring 77 percent on Market Force's Customer Loyalty Index.

Wegmans has a handful of stores in Maryland: Abingdon, Columbia, Crofton, Frederick, Germantown, Hunt Valley, Owings Mills and Woodmore near Bowie. There are no Publix stores in Maryland.

You can find Trader Joe's locations across Maryland, including in Towson, Pikesville, Elkridge, Annapolis, Silver Spring, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Bethesda and more.
