MD Weekend Forecast: Winter Weather Advisory In 5 Counties

Several Maryland counties could get snow, ice and rain Saturday night before polar air and below zero wind chills move in for Sunday.

BALTIMORE, MD — Maryland's weekend weather has a trifecta of nasty words in the forecast: Ice, sleet and snow. Two counties — Harford and Howard — are under a winter weather advisory from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19. The National Weather Service says those areas, in particular are expected to get an inch of snow plus some ice and sleet.

Plan on slippery road conditions in southeast Harford, and central and southeast Howard counties. Expect limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

Carroll and northern Baltimore counties are under a winter weather advisory until 6 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20. Total snow accumulations of up to 2 inches and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are expected. Highest accumulations will be at the higher elevations.

Northwest Montgomery County is under a winter weather advisory until midnight Saturday. Forecasters say the area could receive an inch of snow, along with a touch of ice.

In Montgomery and Prince George's counties, the forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of rain, snow, and sleet after 2 p.m. Saturday, with a high near 38. Temperatures increase to 43 overnight, with a 100 percent chance of rain, up to one inch is possible.

While not all of Maryland is expected to get snow, the entire state will soon be in the deep freeze. Overnight lows will be in the single digits in the Baltimore region on Sunday night, and in the low teens on Monday evening. Wind chills will make it feel as cold as -8 on Sunday night.

Bitterly cold wind chills are likely Sunday night into Monday morning. Wind chills below zero are possible during this time, the weather service says. The combination of moderate to heavy rain, along with snowmelt and ice melt, has the potential to produce flooding later next week.

Here's the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Saturday: A chance of snow between 1pm and 4pm, then rain, snow, and sleet. High near 38. East wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Saturday Night: Rain, snow, and sleet, becoming all rain after 7pm. Low around 34. East wind 6 to 11 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Sunday: Rain, mainly before 10am. Temperature falling to around 25 by 5pm. Breezy, with a northwest wind 11 to 16 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 9. Wind chill values as low as -8. Blustery, with a northwest wind 18 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph.

M.L.King Day: Sunny, with a high near 19. Blustery, with a northwest wind 17 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.

Monday Night: Clear, with a low around 13.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 33.
