MLK Holiday 2018: Annapolis Parade, What's Open And Closed

Annapolis will hold its fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. holiday parade on Jan. 15. Plus what's open and closed for MLK Day 2018.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — All City of Annapolis offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15, in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The city will hold its fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade at noon Monday. The parade will travel down West Street from Amos Garret Boulevard to West Street to Church Circle, around the circle to Main Street, down Main Street, and ends at City Dock. Roads will be closed as the parade moves through the downtown. For more information visit www.annapolis.gov.

Mayor Gavin Buckley and City Council Members Elly Tierney, Sheila Finlayson, Shaneka Henson, Rob Savidge, and Ross Arnett will march in the parade. Streets along the route will close at noon and are expected to remain closed until about 2 p.m.

The Hillman Parking Garage located off Main Street will be open to the public at no charge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, to accommodate local businesses, customers and those attending the parade. Regular garage prices will resume at 3 p.m.

Black Caucus Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony: The leaders and members of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland will host the annual Martin Luther King Jr. wreath-laying ceremony at the MLK Memorial Tree behind the Statehouse. The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15. The ceremony will feature brief remarks from Gov. Larry Hogan, Speaker of the House Mike Busch, and President of the Senate Mike Miller.

City Offices Closed and No Citizen Fingerprinting: City offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. No citizen fingerprinting will be offered that day. Citizen fingerprinting will resume Monday, Jan. 22, at 6:30 p.m.

Trash Pickup: Recycling and refuse collection WILL NOT be affected and the Pip Moyer Recreation Center will operate on its regular schedule. However, Annapolis Transit will operate on a Sunday Service Schedule. For more information on this schedule, click here.

Schools: All Anne Arundel County Public Schools building and central officers are closed for the holiday on Monday.

Anne Arundel County: All county government offices will be closed on Jan 15.

County Libraries: All libraries will be closed Sunday, Jan. 14, and Monday, Jan. 15, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
