New City Firefighters, Police Officers Sworn In to Serve

Four new firefighters were sworn in as members of the Annapolis Fire Department (AFD) at Monday night’s city council meeting.

The new members include: Jim Goetz, Lori Luke, Corey Parrott and Julia Watson.

The following information about the new firefighters was supplied by Tony Spencer, spokesman for the AFD:

• Jim Goetz served 20 years in the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and 10 years in the Fort Meade Fire Department. He is a national registered paramedic as well as a Maryland Paramedic.
• Lori Luke has four years of fire department experience between years with Anne Arundel County Fire Department and the Annapolis Fire Department. She is also a registered nurse and a national registered paramedic.
• Corey Parrott served six years with Marion County Fire and Rescue in Florida and one year with the District of Columbia Fire Department. He is a national registered paramedic.
• Julia Watson served the past year with the Loudoun County Fire Department in Virginia and is currently a national registered EMT-Intermediate.

The following information about the new police officers was released by Rhonda Wardlaw, spokeswoman for the city of Annapolis:

• Dannette Smikle was recruited from the DC Metro Area Transit Authority where she spent four years as a police officer. Prior to that, she was a police officer in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, for two years. 
• Gustavo Martinez comes to Annapolis from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) where he served for 1 1/2 years. Martinez worked for a private security firm for 12 years prior to working with the BPD. 

The AFD has 122 uniformed staff and the APD has 112, according to a release from the city.
