Would You Like Fries With That? Old Bay Launches New Product

Maryland's favorite seasoning is celebrating its 75th anniversary with the launch of Old Bay fries in freezers nationwide, including Walmart and Publix stores.

A shaker of Old Bay in the cupboard is a staple for seasoned Marylanders, and the rest of the country is about to find out just how good it is, too.

As part of the Old Bay “The Can that Connects Us” 75th anniversary celebration, McCormick & Co. Inc. will partner with Mr. Dee’s to bring Old Bay Natural Cut Seasoned Fries to a freezer section near you, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.

Will you buy the packaged, seasoned Old Bay fries? Or continue to make your own and add the seasoning yourself? Tell us in the comments what your favorite dishes are that require Old Bay seasoning.

The Baltimore Business Journal reports that the frozen fries will be sold at various grocers across the country, including Walmart and Publix.

So instead of buying bland fries, or making homemade fries and seasoning them yourself, the Old Bay fries will come to you already seasoned and nicely packaged. Of course, that’s not to say that you can’t add more of the zesty seasoning, provided you have that shaker of Old Bay handy in the cupboard.

But the celebration isn’t ending with the release of the yummy product. Old Bay released an invitation for Baltimoreans to join in for a summer of Old Bay goodness.

Here’s what Old Bay has in store for summer:

  • 75th Anniversary commemorative Old Bay can. Yup. For all the Old Bay lovers and collectors, these cans will replace the regular packaging for a limited time.
  • Old Bay Interactive Mosaic. Fans can be a part of a mosaic by submitting pictures on the Old Bay Facebook page from Memorial Day through to Labor Day.
  • The Old Baytique at McCormick World of Flavors at Harborplace, complete with Old Bay merchandise such as baby bibs, ties, pottery, lunch boxes, scarves, or beach gear. Oh, and a pun-y name.
  • Old Bay’s first TV commercials and billboards that will feature Baltimoreans. The TV ads will air throughout summer.
  • For those who are 21 and older, Flying Dog Brewery presents you with the Dead Rise Old Bay Summer Ale, available in a six-pack and on draft through the end of September. Hey, it’s five o’clock somewhere, right?
  • Old Bay Day at Power Plant Live on June 28. The event will include Old Bay crab feasts, Old Bay beer deck, Old Bay Bloody Mary bar, a homemade crab cake contest  -- grab your chef hat and your Old Bay seasoning -- judged by celebrity chef and Maryland native, Bryan Voltaggio and live entertainment.
  • Beachgoers in Ocean City will see Old Bay messaging in the sea and sky all summer.
  • Baltimore Bill, the weather predicting Old Bay crab, will return to Harbor Place in September to make a forecast.
