One Resident Dies in Rowhome Blaze, Firefighter Injured

A fire in Brooklyn Park early Monday morning killed a man found inside a burning rowhome.

Brooklyn Park, Md. – One person has died following a two-alarm fire early Monday morning in a Brooklyn Park rowhome, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a call reporting a fire in the area of Brookwood Road about 4:35 a.m. Firefighters located the fire in a two-story, middle-of-the-group rowhome in the 5200 block of Brookwood Road, near Christian Road, and reported smoke and fire from the second floor.

Firefighters found an adult male on the second floor and removed him from the home; he was determined to be in cardiac arrest. Paramedics worked to resuscitate him on the scene and when those efforts were not successful, he was declared deceased.

During the search of the rowhome, a firefighter fell through the second floor to the first floor. He was quickly removed from the residence and taken to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Authorities said the injured firefighter was released from the hospital late Monday morning.

Sixty firefighters from Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport brought the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

There were no additional injuries, and the deceased was the only occupant home at the time of the fire.

Officials said there was damage to an adjacent home that is unoccupied and under renovation and also to two other occupied homes. The two occupied homes received smoke damage, but the occupants will not likely be displaced.

Members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit are working to determine the cause of the fire.
