Optimists turn out to Meet the Creek
It wasn't the best day for a boat ride but about 25 Admiral Heights residents braved the weather to attend Meet the Creek.
The sky poured rain, then brightened to a sunny blue for a few minutes, before darkening to drizzle again. Optimists wore their sunglasses, but most of the day remained dark, damp and dreary.
It wasn’t the best day for a boat ride but about 25 Admiral Heights residents braved the weather to attend Meet the Creek, an event sponsored by the Admiral Heights Improvement Association to increase appreciation of Weems Creek.
Almost everyone rode a Watermark taxi along the creek, where they saw ducks and geese huddled on docks and some unidentified birds in flight. Hawks? Owls? Osprey? No one was quite sure.

They also spent some time ashore, munching on cookies and brownies, meeting neighbors, talking about community issues, and picking up educational materials about storm water, rivers, outdoor activities, and boating safety.
Event organizer Grant Garcia hopes to see more people and better weather next year. In the meantime, Admiral Heights residents are invited to the community’s next big event: the Fourth of July parade on July 4 at 10 a.m. at Sampson Place.
