Parents Can Pick Up AACPS Meals Without Kids
Before the state approved the Anne Arundel County Public Schools waiver, adults had to accompany their children to receive meals.
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — The Maryland State Department of Education has granted Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ request for a waiver to allow parents and guardians to pick up meals without their children present starting Monday.
AACPS serves three free meals – a hot lunch and cold dinner and breakfast – each weekday to children ages two to 18 at 60 locations across the county. More than 1.3 million meals have been provided since the program began March 16. Previously, adults had to accompany their children to receive meals.
Under the new waiver, parents or guardians must call the division of food and nutrition services at 410-222-5900 in advance and provide their name, the names and ages of their children for whom they will pick up meals and the meal site location. Once approved, names will be placed on a roster maintained at the pickup location.
