Pasadena Man Critically Injured in Rollover Crash: Police
A van driver is suspected of being drunk and impaired by marijuana; charges are pending in the crash that threw a passenger from the van.

BALTIMORE, MD — A Pasadena man was critically injured when he was thrown from a van that went airborne and crashed at a BP station in northern Anne Arundel County.
The single-vehicle crash was reported just after 3:30 a.m. Monday in the lot of the BP station on Fort Smallwood Road and Sycamore Road in Baltimore. Anne Arundel County Police say a 2002 Chevrolet Venture van driven by David Lucas Bowen, 21, of Port Deposit, was northbound on Fort Smallwood Road when it crossed the concrete median just past Lauren Way. The van jumped the curb and sidewalk in front of the BP parking are, became airborne, struck several light poles, and eventually landed on the roof in the parking lot.
During the rollover, passenger Julian Anthony Joyner, 21, of Pasadena was thrown from the van; he was not wearing a seatbelt. Bowen suffered minor injuries, while Joyner’s injuries were critical. Both men were taken to Shock Trauma Medical Center for treatment.

The primary cause of the crash appears to be the driver’s failure to remain right of center. Alcohol and marijuana are believed to be significant contributing factors, police said. The driver was also driving on a suspended learner’s permit. Any charges are pending review by the State’s Attorney.
