Photos: Wreaths Across America Visits Annapolis

Before Saturday's big event at Arlington National Cemetery, representatives from the organization Wreaths Across America (WAA) visited Annapolis for a wreath laying ceremony at the World War II Memorial.

The ceremony, held Friday, was hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy, the city of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, and featured speakers included Annapolis Mayor Joshua J. Cohen and County Executive John R. Leopold. It honored Naval Academy graduates and veterans.

According to a release, each year, WAA makes a journey from Harrington, ME, to Arlington National Cemetery for the main event. The journey started Dec. 6 and ended this Saturday, according to the release.

"To know that the warmth of Christmas is being delivered every year to these grave sites, you've just got to know that it's important to everyone, not just the families," said Edith Nowels, whose brother died in the Battle of the Bulge. "But just for all of America, and the veterans that are still surviving to know that one day we're going to remember everyone. "
