Korman described Kitchen as having an "infectious love for the Democratic party," while Ball said he was a "compassionate democrat who advocated on behalf of our young people across Maryland."

Kitchen's family last heard from him Tuesday, according to the Washington Post. His brother told the paper the disappearance was "alarming" and "we don't have any guess as to what happened."

On social media, Kitchen reported July 22 that he was struggling to get out of bed due to a combination of factors, including living in survival mode with a "jam-packed schedule," a breakup and despair over the state of the nation.

Wrote Kitchen: "I have not been handling this well."
