Puppy Found In Trash Bag Dies; Police Search for Owner
Anne Arundel County Police say the puppy was found on vacant property with a green substance in the bag; abuse is suspected.
BROOKLYN PARK, MD — Detectives are investigating a fatal case of animal abuse in the Pumphrey area of Brooklyn Park after a dog was found trapped inside a trash bag with an unknown substance.
Anne Arundel County Police spokesman Lt. Ryan Frashure told Patch that tests are being run on a green, granular substance found in the bag with a terrier mix puppy. Authorities should know more about the material and the dog’s cause of death next week.
Police were called to the area of Shenandoah Avenue and Gibbons Avenue Thursday night for the report of animal cruelty. A trash bag on vacant property was opened by officers, who found a small dog inside the bag.

Anne Arundel County Animal Control workers took the dog immediately to an emergency veterinarian facility, where the dog later died while being treated.
The dog, a black/white terrier mix, was likely 5 or 6 months old. There were no obvious signs of injury or trauma to the puppy, police said.

Northern District detectives have assumed the lead investigative role in the case.
There are currently no suspects, but detectives are canvassing the area and passing out flyers through the neighborhood.
