Accidental Riva House Fire Displaces 9, Causes $75K In Damage: Officials
A Riva house fire displaced nine and caused $75,000 in damage, leaders said. Authorities are investigating what caused the accidental blaze.

RIVA, MD — Officials announced that a Riva house fire displaced nine residents and caused $75,000 in damage on Tuesday. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accidental blaze in the 3000 block of Sussex Place.
Occupants, neighbors and passersby reported the fire around 2:11 p.m. First responders found flames coming from the attic and the roof of the two-story, single-family home.
Crews said they evacuated the three people inside during the fire, which started in the attic. Leaders did not report any injuries. Investigators said the property did not have any smoke detectors.

A team of 34 controlled the scene in 20 minutes, a press release said. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department thanked these stations for their assistance:
- Annapolis Fire Department
- Naval Support Activity Annapolis Fire Department
The Anne Arundel County Police Department as well as Baltimore Gas and Electric also responded.
