Road Closures Planned For Annapolis Running Classic Nov. 16

ANNAPOLIS, MD — An estimated 2,000 runners will arrive in Annapolis for the 9th Annual Annapolis Running Classic Nov. 16. Residents should expect rolling road closures the morning of the event. Brief street closures are expected between the Main Street corridor and United States Naval Academy Gate One, starting at 7:15 a.m., with alternate routes available.

All runners will begin at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. They will come down Rowe Boulevard to Calvert Street, go clockwise around Church Circle, come down Main Street to Susan Campbell Park. From there, they will take Randall Street and Naval Academy Gate 1. Then they’ll run up King George Street, take a left onto College Avenue, a right onto St. John’s Street and then a right onto Bladen Street. There is a turnaround at Rowe Boulevard, where they will take a left on St. John’s Street, left onto College Avenue and a left on King George St.

The stadium is the finish line for 10K runners, but half marathon runners will continue by turning right to go over the Naval Academy Bridge into the county, before returning back over the bridge and ending at the stadium.

All runners will be finished and road closures will end at 10:30 a.m. Any runners not finished will be directed onto the sidewalks and all streets will be open to normal traffic.

• Taylor Avenue, Cedar Park Road, Farragut Road, Rowe Blvd, Herbert Sachs Drive, Northwest Street, Church Circle (east side), Main Street, Randall Street from 7:00 to 8:20 a.m. Downtown Annapolis, including Main Street and the City Dock Area, will be completely open to traffic by 8:30 a.m.
• King George Street, College Avenue, Bladen Street, St. John Street from 7:30 to 8:35 a.m. King George St. from Gate 1 to College Avenue will be open by 8:35 a.m. and King George St. from College Avenue to Rt. 450 will be open by 10:30 a.m.
• Rowe Blvd. and Taylor Avenue will have a detour around Stadium between 7:00-10:30 a.m. Taylor Avenue east of Rowe Blvd. will be closed to traffic until 10:30 a.m.The streets listed will open and close on a rolling basis. There will be nine parking spaces reserved on College Avenue for this event.

In Anne Arundel County:

• Route 450, Naval Academy Bridge - One lane of the bridge will be open at all times to USNA Gate 8.
• Ritchie Hwy, Boulters Way - Cars will be permitted to travel on Ritchie Highway at all times with cars being directed to northbound lanes.
