Robber Chokes Cabbie, Also Charged In Armed Store Holdup: Police

An Annapolis man is in jail after he allegedly robbed a store, then choked and robbed a cab driver a day later, police say.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — An Annapolis man is in jail after he allegedly robbed a store, then choked and robbed a cab driver a day later, police say. A cab driver told Annapolis Police he picked up a man in the Eastport area and drove him to the 100 block of Clay Street. As he was stopped for the passenger to get out of the cab, the man allegedly choked the driver from behind, stole money from him, then ran away.

Officers did not locate the attacker, but he matched the description of the suspect in an armed robbery at a store in the 200 block of West Street the day before. Detectives suspected the robber was Stephen Thomas, 44, of Annapolis.

A warrant had already been issued for Thomas charging him with the robbery. Officers kept looking for Thomas and he was spotted about 11 a.m. on Nov. 7 walking on Monroe Street near Brashears Street. Thomas was identified as the robber of the cab driver and also arrested for the armed robbery of the store.

Police charged Thomas with armed robbery, robbery, motor vehicle unlawful taking, robbery, theft and assault. He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center on a temporary commitment.
