About 45 Annapolis Senior Activity Center members attended the center’s Valentine’s Day party on Feb. 12.
Most of them wore red for the occasion. A half dozen of them did the twist and other dances to the tunes played by the J & J Duo. “I feel like a teenager again,” said Connie Rivera, one of the dancers.
Another dancer, Lorraine Thomason, marveled that she was still dancing. “I turned 90 on Dec. 10,” she said. “I can’t believe I’m that old.”

The party started a little early and lasted a little later than the hour allotted for it. The party started with the arrival of Chick-fil-A’s Princess Cow. The Princess Cow circulated among the tables, hugging all the seniors.
Then, the music began as the J & J Duo played such favorites as “All Shook Up,” “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Ramblin’ Rose,” “The Twist,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Jambalaya (On the Bayou),” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Don’t be Cruel,” and “In the Still of the Night.”

The music served as a pleasant background as conversations hummed at almost every table. Between the holidays, delayed openings, closures, and seniors away for either pleasure trips or illnesses, many of them had not seen each other for awhile. Every one was anxious to catch up on the other’s latest news and hugs were share all around.
Unlike some of the music these days which the seniors deem too loud, Elvis Presley’s rock ‘n’ roll, Chubby Checker’s twist, and a few country hits were deemed just right for listening, for dancing and also for letting the seniors talk.
Punch, cupcakes with rings on them, and candy kisses rounded out the party.
