Severe Storm Warning Issued for Anne Arundel, Prince George's Counties

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties on Saturday.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties on Saturday. Areas covered by the warning include south-central Anne Arundel County, northwestern Calvert County and southeastern Prince Georges County.

The warning expires at 4:15 p.m. The weather service says that at 3:28 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was located near Dunkirk, or near Chesapeake Beach, moving northeast at 45 mph. Sixty mph wind gusts and quarter size hail are possible with this storm.

damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

Locations in the warning area include: Shady Side, Chesapeake Beach, Deale, Prince Frederick, Dunkirk, Huntingtown, Owings, Baden, Aquasco, Friendship, Tracys Landing, Sunderland and Mount Harmony.

Get indoors to protect yourself from wind and lightning. Trees around you may be downed from damaging winds, so if you are near large trees, move to an interior room on the lowest floor. Don't drive underneath trees or in wooded areas until the threat has passed.

The gale warning is in effect for the Chesapeake Bay and all inland waters until 1 a.m. Sunday.
