Severe Weather to Hit Maryland During Evening Commute

Baltimore, MD — Thursday night’s commute will be a wet and stormy one, and the potential for strong storms has led the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm watch for much of Maryland.

Thursday afternoon into the evening, the main threat is damaging wind with large hail and isolated tornadoes also possible, the NWS says. The greatest risk will be between 4 and 9 p.m.

The watch area includes the city of Baltimore, plus Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.

A flash flood watch goes into effect at 5 p.m. for northern and central portions of the state.

Thursday — A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday night — Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 3 am, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 am. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Low around 63. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday — Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 73. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday night — A chance of showers before 9 pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 59. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday — Sunny, with a high near 78.

Saturday night — Mostly clear, with a low around 57.

Sunday — Sunny, with a high near 81.
